Learn about the history of Miyajima straight from the monks of Daisho-in
Daisho-in is the oldest Buddhist temple of the Shingon-Omuro sect on Miyajima.
It has deep historical ties with the Imperial Household, as well as enjoying patronage from such prominent historical figures as the imperial regent Toyotomi Hideyoshi of the Warring States Period, or the first prime minister of Japan, Ito Hirobumi. The monks from this prestigious temple will explain everything about the history and profundity of Miyajima, as well as the "eternal light" kept burning for over 1200 years.
The esoteric teachings the famous monk Kukai (Kobo Daishi) brought from ancient China have a deep philosophical aspect to them.
On this tour you will have a chance to glean into the teachings and earn a bit of wisdom and insight directly from the well-versed monks themselves.
Finally, make a wish at the Ichigan Daishi that is believed to grant a single wish and who knows, your wish just might come true!
A different world awaits! Enjoy a hidden Japanese garden as well as an off-limits tea room!
On the temple grounds there is a small hidden garden that only people in the know are aware of. Merely setting foot in it is like being spirited away into a different world of tranquility.
The off-limits tea room is a copy of the Sa-an annex of Gyokurin-in cloister in Daitokuji Temple, its design being heavily influenced by the preference of none other than the head of the Urasenke family, Sen Soshitsu.
On the day of your tour this whole area will be closed off and available for you only, so please feel free to enjoy it to the fullest at your leisure.
The shojin-ryori Buddhist meal will be served in your preferred spot in the garden and the tea served in either the big hall or small hall of the tea room in accordance with your preference.
Absorb the spiritual power of Miyajima
Bask in the power of the island of the gods. This experience has been specifically designed to make full use of the uniqueness of Miyajima.
The vegetables for the shojin-ryori Buddhist monk cuisine are completely locally sourced!
The water for the tea ceremony will be boiled on the hearth stoked by the "eternal light" holy flame.
Purify both your body and soul and imbue yourself with the power and energy to face the coming days.
