Shinsekai, located in the southern part of Osaka City, is home to popular and famous tourist attractions like the local god of fortune, Billiken, Tsutenkaku Tower, Jan Jan Yokocho, and the pufferfish restaurant, Zuboraya. The area retains its working-class Showa era atmosphere, with old-fashioned theaters, cinemas, shooting gallery (Hihokan), and retro game center (Kasuga Gorakujo). The Go club in Jan Jan Yokocho is a place for locals to regularly relax even to this day, and its movie set-like appearance makes it popular among tourists. Additionly, the area is full of spots where you can enjoy a taste of the Japan of yesteryear, such as New Star, where you can play the old smart ball game. Associated with Osaka, kushikatsu and doteyaki are foods that the area is particulary known for. Each store has their own special secret sauce that is placed on each table to share, resulting in the rule of absolutely no double-dipping! Food stalls and restaurants are lined up side by side, so you can enjoy taste testing each spot's take on the dishes.
