With manzai and rakugo performances by Yoshimoto talent and personalities, Namba Grand Kagetsu boasts the nation's largest capacity for a comedy-based theater, housing about 900 seats. Two performances are held on weekdays and 3~4 performances on weekends/holidays. They also have a reputation for opening acts by young, nameless performers 15 minutes before the main event. In 1987, to commemorate the new theater, the famous comedic duo, Downtown, hosted the opening ceremony, during which they were insanely popular in Kansai. The theater is also used for the Osaka semifinals of the Yoshimoto sponsored entertainment contests, M-1 Grand Prix and R-1 Grand Prix. In 2012, the facility received a large-scale renovation to deal with the structural deterioration after 25 years. In addition to the theater, there are various shops in the building, so visitors can enjoy not just comedy, but also food and other activities. The closest station is Nankai Namba Station, about 3 minutes away walking.
