Opened on the former site of Osaka Stadium in October of 2003, Namba Parks is a large complex designed by American architect, Jon Jerde, also responsible for Canal City Hakata and Roppongi Hills. The appearance of the building was made to resemble a large ravine and the cross sections imitate geological layers, giving it a distinctive look. In 2014, CNN featured the establishment as one of the 10 of the world's best high-rise and rooftop green spaces. From the 3rd floor up, you can see and enjoy nature with about 70,000 plants that interweave the terraces, comprising Parks Garden. In 2005, the design won an award in the 4th competition for special green engineering for rooftops and walls held by the Organization for Landscape and Urban Green Infrastructure. In April 2007, a new Takashimaya space was added, further completing the shopping and restaurant zone.
