The Higashinagai area of Osaka City's Sumiyoshi Ward was originally planned to be constructed as Rinnanji Temple Park, but was renamed Nagai Park in 1934. In 1948, after the Pacific War, a city-run horse racing track opened, and later in 1950, a municipal cycle racing track follow suit. After the cycling track was closed in 1962, more sports equipment and facilties were added to create a full-fledged athletic park. Installation was completed in 1993, with the second venue for track-and-field events. In 2009, the Nagai Park Sports/Midori Shinko Group was formed to take care of managing the park, which lasted until 2015. From 2016, management was taken over by Nagai Park Sports no Mori Project Group. Inside there are 2 track-and-field stadiums, a baseball stadium, a pool, tennis courts, training grounds, and a handicapped sports center. Additionally, there is a natural museum and a botanical garden with about 1,000 varieties of trees and flowers as well. A huge parking lot is also set up underground. Nagai Park is easily accessible from Nagai Station on the Midosuji Line.
