Much more than just a simple kimono wearing experience

This cultural experience provided by Hiroshima Kimono Asobi is not about simply wearing a kimono. We will go more in-depth as we discuss various fascinating details including the kimono patterns and coordination to find a kimono that best fits your taste and preferences.
After you have changed into your authentic kimono you will have an opportunity to truly experience traditional Japanese culture by making your own mizuhiki accessories or an authentic Japanese washi paper notebook.
We will also teach you the proper way to wear a kimono, including sitting, walking, standing and general demeanor so you can really rock it on your stroll after the workshop. Don on an authentic kimono and perhaps you might discover a completely new layer of yourself.

Traditional meets modern: mizuhiki accessories handcrafting experience

This option is highly recommended for those who would like to experience the traditional mizuhiki handcrafting with a slightly contemporary spin to it.
This experience makes use of mizuhiki (rice paper cords) manufactured by Iyo Mizuhiki - the only authentic maker in the Seto Inland Sea area, located in the Ehime Prefecture. Create your own unique accessory that goes really well with both Japanese and western clothing.
The mizuhiki cords are believed to symbolize the ties between individual people and also act like a ward against misfortune, making them immensely popular especially among the ladies.
Used often as ornaments on gifts for auspicious occasions, this experience will bring you closer to the concept of the Japanese hospitality ""omotenashi"".
After you have crafted your own accessory adorn your kimono with it and wear it proudly on your stroll through Hiroshima!

A breath of new life: make your own notebook out of traditional washi paper and kimono fabric

With this option you will be able to make your own special notebook to commemorate your travels, made exclusively from authentic old kimono fabric and the pride and joy of Hiroshima traditional crafts - Otake handcrafted washi paper.
We offer you a selection of over 50 different patterns of print on silk, once used in authentic kimonos to combine with the locally sourced, handcrafted washi paper.
Even though its role as a garment may have come to an end, rather than discarding the precious silk fabric breathe a new life it and give it a new purpose as your travel companion. Fill it with precious moments from your travels including pictures, goshuin temple seals and more, turning it into a one-of-a-kind treasure chest of memories. Break it in after the workshop by bringing it to the local temples and get your own goshuin temple seal to celebrate the day and commemorate the occasion!
