Tenjimbashisuji Shopping Street runs 2.6km from north to south and is longest in all of Japan. Originally developed around Osaka Temmangu, the shopping street is lined with various shops numbering as many as 600. Because of its length, it is easily accessible from a number of stations like Ogimachi Station, Tenjimbashi 6-chome Station, Minami-morimachi Station, and Temma Station. Additionally, due to the proximity of Temma Vegetable Market, one of Osaka's three biggest markets, the shopping street flourished among the masses. There are also many tourist attractions nearby, such as Temma Tenjin Hanjo Tei, Ogimachi Park, Kids Plaza Osaka, and Osaka Museum of Housing and Living. In 1931, with Osaka Central Wholesale Market taking a share and large commercial establishments opening, there were concerns over the decrease in customers. However, by spreading the catchphrase "longest in Japan" and placing greater emphasis on communicating with customers, the shopping street has achieved a vacancy of just 4% while having 600 stores. This is much lower than the national average of 13%.
