Walking east of Hankyu Umeda Station, you'll find Higashidori Shopping Street, known as the largest pleasure district in Kita. This area's shopping street had its start immediately after the war, when restaurants gathered around Ohatsu Tenjin Shrine and it became a local dining spot. Stretching 450 meters long, the street is comprised of several associations that are collectively referred to as Higashidori Shopping Street. These include Hankyu Higashi Daiichi Shotenkai, Hankyu Higashi Daini Shotenkai, Hankyu Higashi Daisan Shotenkai, Park Avenue Doyama Shotenkai, Hankyu Higashi Chuo Shotengai, Hankyu Higashi, and Hankyu Higashinakadori Shotengai. Lined with not just bars and restaurants, but also Japanese "snack" bars, karaoke parlors, game centers, and more, it's a hot spot in Kita for fun all throughout the night. During the day, the area is filled with visitors making their way to the shrine or businessmen searching for a place to have lunch. Today, you won't find many old establishments that still operate here, but rather newer stores.
