HEP Five is a commercial complex located right by Hankyu Umeda Station, marked by a red Ferris wheel. Many famous fashion brands can be found inside. It takes about 5 minutes to walk from the Station. Opened as Hankyu Five in 1971, the name was changed to HEP Five in 1998. ”HEP” stands for Hankyu Entertainment Park. Clothing stores fill the space from the basement to the sixth floor. The seventh floor is primarily food, while the 8th and 9th floors are dedicated to amusement, with occasional events. The Atrium contains a large 20 meter red whale designed by Tatsuya Ishi, suspended from the ceiling to give the impression of it swimming through the ocean. The most distinctive feature of HEP Five is the large rooftop Ferris wheel, 75m in diameter. It runs from 11:00am to 10:45pm, and has a sweeping view of the vista including Mount Ikoma and Osaka Bay. At night, the wheel is lit up, lending to a beautiful cityscape. Coupled with the adjacent HEP NAVIO, which contains clothing shops tailored to men, restaurants, and TOHO Cinemas, this large commercial area in Kita attracts the city's youth.
